Remodeling, Saint Paul, Minnesota. The original kitchen of this 1928 house was cramped, dark, and cut off from the rest of the house. A modest 3 foot addition cantilevered into the backyard made possible a small island, lots of light and generous views. Each run of cabinetry is treated as a piece of furniture, with decorative toe kicks, detailed joinery and beautiful patterning of quarter-sawn oak. The tile, while light and modern, has the texture and feel of a bygone era with the addition of a band of color mosaics that wraps the whole room.
